This position is for a departmentalized ELA classroom teacher. As a member of the 5/6 teacher team, the important responsibility of synthesizing the learning and the creation of the final product for all 5/6 learning expeditions often comes together in the ELA classroom. Our ideal candidate for this high-leverage position, is a teacher who is committed to transforming students into thoughtful readers and effective writers. This teacher is well read in classical literature, modern literature and can connect learning for students with current, relevant young adult titles. This teacher also demonstrates a command for written language and models these skills for students through powerful opportunities to write for authentic audiences.

Three or more years teaching in an Expeditionary Learning School preferred and in the applicable grade/subject areas.
Demonstrates successful experience using school reform models and non-traditional professional development models.
Participates as a member of a collaborative team by successfully using communication strategies and structures to overcome collaboration barriers such as time and communication styles.
Demonstrates an awareness of personal strengths and challenges in terms of collaboration and can demonstrate flexibility in his/her personal style to serve multiple roles in collaborative relationships/teams.
Exhibits initiative in meeting the professional challenge of meeting diverse student needs in a heterogeneous classroom.
