A day in the life of a Tapestry Charter School student is very active. During the course of a week Tapestry students receive instruction in art, music, dance, physical education and foreign language. In grades K-4 we refer to these areas of study as the Super Subjects. We recognize these subjects build multiple cognitive, social, physical, and creative skills, as well as enrich the lives and learning of our students and our school community. Art, music, dance, physical education and foreign language connects us to culture, history and community.
Our K-4 students receive instruction in music, dance and visual art twice a week throughout the school year. While learning about each art form, students also experience cross-curricular learning. In addition to the excellent arts instruction students receive from our talented and dedicated staff, Tapestry students also have opportunities to work with guest artists, visit museums/galleries, and attend theatre/dance performances. Our students learn about the rich cultural community they live in and share their experiences with the school community and beyond. Student work in the arts is highlighted throughout the school year in a variety of venues such as: whole school community meetings, open classes, informal performances, and year-end art exhibits.
Based on the principle that language is best developed within a meaningful context, K-4 Spanish instruction is designed to aligned with classroom themes and fieldwork as well as seasonal topics. K-4 students receive instruction in Spanish twice a week throughout the school year. A variety of instructional techniques and materials are used including direct instruction, games, art activities, centers, and books in the target language.
Through the years these programs have benefited greatly from the generosity of many individuals in the Tapestry Community. The amazing fundraising efforts of the Tapestry Community Association, and grants received through the hard work of the administrative team and professional grant writers continue to provide students in all grade levels learning opportunities in and out of the classroom.
