Tapestry Squash Team

We are very excited about a new program we are bringing to Tapestry Charter School and want to share the details with you.  We have been working with others in our school community to build our athletic program, and have chosen to add squash to our small but growing list of sports for middle and high school students.

Tapestry Charter School will be the first charter school in New York State to offer squash to its students.  We have been working hard to strengthen our sports program, as we feel that a strong athletic program has the potential to enrich students‘ lives both personally and academically. Combining urban education with the sport of squash has become a national movement. The city of Buffalo has a rich history in the sport of squash and because Tapestry is an exciting place for urban education, combining the two seems to be a natural fit. Giving a student the opportunity to learn squash has the potential to open doors including possible college scholarships.  Our goal is to introduce squash to students who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to learn about the sport. Our first season, which will begin in November, will be a concentration in developing our athletes and learning the basics of the game.  We plan to have a team in place for the 2010-11 school year.

The Buffalo Squash Racquets Association has shown enthusiasm about Tapestry establishing a program and has generously donated four new racquets and four pair of goggles. Several local professionals have agreed to donate their time to “guest coach ” our young athletes during our development year.

How You Can Help

We are reaching out to people in our community who have shown a passion for racquet sports, children and education, and we would appreciate any support for development of our program.  Please help us launch our squash team by considering a gift of your time, materials, or a financial contribution to introduce a young athlete to the game.
