PARENTS & VOLUNTEERS

Tapestry parents are involved parents. Volunteering gives parents the feeling of ownership in their school and shared responsibility for the successful education of our children. Every parent can make time for some form of volunteering at the school. It could be during school hours or for special fund raising or community building events organized by the Tapestry Charter School Community Association (TCA), the school's voluntary parent/family organization, after school hours. It could be as simple as volunteering during a fundraising event some weekend. Regardless, every parent/guardian is expected to volunteer at least once in a school year.

Here are some areas of opportunity for volunteering:

Morning Greeter: Every morning there are two morning greeters on hand to welcome children as they are dropped off and see them safely into the school. Morning greeters work from 7:50-8:20am one day a week.

Dining Room Breakfast: Some children need help putting cream cheese on their bagels. Others just need to be reminded not to throw away the silverware. Breakfast volunteering is from 7:30-8:00am one day a week.

Dining Room Lunch: Keep order, clean spills, hand out ice cream. What could be better? Lunch ranges from 11:15am to 1:05pm, so volunteer on a day and time that's best for you.

Library: Shelve books and use the computer to check books in and out and to look up new books. Nava would love to show you how, just ask. You can volunteer during library hours between 10:00am-2:00pm!

Maintenance: Are you a Mr. or Ms. Fix-it? We always need help putting things together, moving things around, repairing and painting. If you have a special skill like plumbing, carpentry, dry wall, etc. please consider helping out in your specialty area.

Clubs: Most Friday afternoons at Tapestry the students have clubs. Consider running a club or helping run a club. Helping out with clubs is a fun way to volunteer while getting to know Tapestry students and staff. Clubs are held at 2:00pm on Fridays.

Volunteering in your child's classroom: All Tapestry teachers (and students) welcome another set of hands, eyes and ears in their classrooms. Volunteer on a weekly or monthly basis or whenever an hour or two of volunteering fits into your schedule. It's a great way to get to know the children and teachers and become familiar with what your child is studying in school.

Room Parent: Whether it is making phone calls to inform parents about an unexpected snow day or getting parents involved in a specific activity, room parents are important players in the school's communication process. Room parents also nominate future TCA officers.

Special Events: There are special fundraisers and community building activities that Tapestry and the TCA hold each year. Raised funds are used for field trips, classroom equipment, clubs, the Salvation Army gym, after school sports, etc. Here are some of the events that will need volunteers:

  • Innisbrook Gift Wrap Sale - This sale is usually held in the fall so that items purchased can be used around the holidays. You can help by setting up a display or by distributing the orders.
  • Camp Tapestry - Held in September, this event is just for fun. No fundraising involved here. Just community building and tall tales around the campfire. You can help with organization and mailings for this event.
  • Spaghetti Dinner - For this delicious family dinner, held in October, you can help by selling tickets, preparing food or doing setup and/or cleanup.
  • Talking Leaves Book Sale - The Talking Leaves Book Store generously hosts a book sale in November that benefits the library and all the classrooms. Encourage everyone you know to use the special Tapestry coupon to buy books, and 10% of sales proceeds are donated to Tapestry. Things you can do include: work at the store greeting Tapestry families and friends, compile teacher wish lists, inscribe books that are purchased for the school, etc.
  • Cookie Dough Sale - We hope to sponsor this fundraiser in the late fall to take the stress out of holiday baking. A "sweet" way to raise TCA funs!
  • Planet Tapestry - This is Tapestry's adult party fundraiser usually held in the early spring. Things you can help with include: food, beverages, decorations, raffle/auction, setup/cleanup and event greeters, or even host the gift gathering party a couple of months before the main event.

Foundation Support and Annual Giving Campaign - Volunteers with development expertise are needed to work with the grants committee on identifying and applying for grants and organizing the annual giving campaign.

Sign up for one of these activities right away on the sign up sheets (the sheets are always posted in the front hall of the school) or call/email the TCA Volunteer Coordinators:
