Tapestry Charter School provides an inclusive educational program to meet the educational needs of all students. Our total student population currently stands at 270 for grades K-9. Approximately 10% of these children are classified as having special needs. These classifications include: Learning Disabled, Speech Impaired, Hearing Impaired, and Other Health Related.

Services are rendered within the school setting by a Special Education Teacher, who provides resource room and consultant teacher services, a School Psychologist, who evaluates children and provides counseling services, and a school nurse. Tapestry Charter School provides services on-site in collaboration with the Buffalo Public Schools, which includes: Speech therapy, Occupational therapy, Hearing Impaired, and Vision Impaired services. Each classified child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), and receives services consistent with what is indicated on their IEP.

In accordance with New York State Education Law, Tapestry Charter School does not have an on-site Committee on Special Education (CSE), however they are linked with the Buffalo Public Schools CSE.

All of our classrooms are designed to meet the educational needs of classified students because of our emphasis on differentiated (individualized) instruction. As per the New York State Education guidelines, all children suspected of having a handicapping condition are initially referred to the Tapestry Child Study Teams and/or Section 5.04 (Americans with Disabilities Act) teams. These teams explore innovative ways to remediate the child on-site. If a parent or teacher feels an immediate referral to the Buffalo Public Schools CSE is necessary, the appropriate contact can be made immediately. If all attempts at remediation within the school are not successful, the child is then referred to the Buffalo CSE for further testing and evaluation.
